Client Interpretation

The Client: Sunderland Culture

The project is organized by this organization, Sunderland Culture. They are a registered charity that was founded in April 2016. The main focus is to bring together Sunderland's primary cultural assets and present creative potential in the northeast. Their mission is to "improve life for everyone in Sunderland through culture". Sunderland Culture operates in multiple locations across Sunderland, such as National Glass Center, The Fire Station, and The Winter Gardens. The client was originally an idea that came to life with the help of Sunderland City Council, The University of Sunderland, and Sunderland MAC (Music Arts and Culture) trust.

Where Does Sunderland Culture Operate:

This map is of venues and projects that Sunderland Culture operates with. Looking at the map you can identify that they are located all over the northeast, therefore, appealing to a higher range of audience and people who live all over the northeast. The Primary place that Sunderland culture operates from is the National Glass Center and this is because it's a place that presents the history of making glass within the region and what life was alike during them times.

The Audience for this project:

The correct targeted audience will be 16-25 due to the client endorsing this audience.
While creating my project I'll need to polarize two different age groups and make it engaging but also educational towards their regional identity. Furthermore, it can connect both age groups to work together and reflect on their individual experience or as a collective.

While decoding the brief I have come to encounter that I'm asked for my audience to "express their own regional identity". I'm not too familiar with ways you can outwardly present your regional identity apart from being in a social circle, picking up dialects and accents that come up naturally anyways from the people within the northeast and wouldn't change with my product. Furthermore, I have found a possibility to connect the divided age groups by presenting them with local well-known landmarks such as the National Glass Center, Hylton Castle, Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art, Angel of the North, etc.

These are requirements in detail and also provide some inspiration

How you look
How you feel
What you like
What do you don't like
What you believe in
What do you don't believe in
how do you think other people see you
How you feel about your region
What it is to come from this region
The three main things I think I want to present in my posters are how people look (within the city of Sunderland and the region Northeast including Seaham and South Shields) Their Social Enviourments (Locations, Landmarks, Local Area) Their perspective of the Region (individual understanding and region understanding)

The population of Sunderland is in the region of 250,000 - 300,000 people and looking at the latest census we can see that 93.6% of the population are white British with only 3.4% of the population being Asian residents, only 0.7% of the population are black. The Census also shows that 70% of the population identify as being Christian, and 22% do not follow a religion with the minority religions including, Islam, Sikh, Hindu, Buddhism and Jewish.

Client:

My Main client for this project will indeed be Sunderland Culture representing Sunderland city. they define themselves as "Sunderland Culture is a new organisation created to bring together Synderland's most important cultural assets and activities and realise the ambition of a city brimming with creative potential". Therefore, I understand that it is a great idea to try and present that creativity for Sunderland culture and expose Sunderland's creative side as much as possible alongside the cultural value which will be explored through its landmarks. I already know that the company operates in several buildings in and around Sunderland City such as the Fire Station and The National Glass Center, So it could be an idea to feature these main projects from the client within my work. perhaps get individuals to pose and use them as the main characters representing the city of Sunderland.

Potential Issues:

Reserving models from different potential backgrounds.
